I knew not to expect much from this very small... not dwarf... orinoco blooming so late but was excited about the experience of watching the bananas grow until frost set in. The poor thing is rather pathetic looking with a very small skinny bloom. Now 3 cute little flowers emerged and today 2 of them dropped off. What causes this to happen?

A bit of info........ had this particular O potted up last year and then stuck it in my bedroom overwinter last year. It threw 2 pups, one of which is now bigger than the mother plant. They are now planted in ground (since spring) and the mother, which is blooming, is a stunted 4ft of psuedostem. The bloom is a mere 8 inches maybe, and perhaps slightly bigger around than a hickory farms meat stick. *heh* There is the slightest possibility that this is not an O, but I'm pretty sure it is.

I had planned on taking a pic but it's raining. (yay on that)

Here's a blurry pic if it helps at all. http://www.bananas.org/gallery/watermark.php?file=5770&size=1 (http://www.bananas.org/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=5770&ppuser=146)

And just to toss this in, a picture of my turtle whom I brought in from the pond this week.

hmph! i thought you guys would at least love the turtle :)

Anyway, flowers continue to fall off so my hopes are dwindling. I wanted to at least see bananas forming even if it's not long off before the first frost.

Thanks for the link, Ron. I had seen that one when I was searching the site.

The turtle... daughter got him about 8 years ago and named him Turquoise, then we found out he was a male so his name changed to Turk. He's a yellow bellied slider and a terrific pet. Messy, but fun to watch and fairly easy to care for. I loved it when we built the pond for him, and was even happier when we got to bring him back in when night time temps lowered.

Kylie, I had 2 red earred sliders but they were too aggressive so I gave them away. They went on a feeding frenzy in the middle of the night, killing all the goldfish that had at one time shared a tank with Turk. What a mess that was!

PAJ... all my first flowers fell off, but now I have a few that so far, so good. Not that it really makes a difference considering it's not long till the first frost. :)
