Iam in lowly zone 6 but I am chomping at the bit for a siam ruby. Prices have come to about $35 at Brians and Stokes.I was wondering if they would overwinter under lights or if anyone dared put one of these into dormancy.Should I wait "till spring and hope they will be around?

I would think if anything they will be more available come spring.. Agri-starts is releasing them in Jan.08..I'll be keeping mine in the house for winter ...

WOO-HOO!!! My 'Siam Ruby' just arrived today!! :choochoo: I was pleasantly surprised at its size; about 3' tall with about 6-8 leaves!

This is good timing for this topic as I have been trying to decide what to do with mine over the winter. Even though I am in zone 9 my bananas always die back somewhat. I've never lost any of them yet due to cold but some such as SDC, Dw. Cavendish, Zebrina, and laterita seem to die back more than others. I will probably either bring my SR in the house or move it in and out all winter. I haven't decided which yet.

Yep, it's pretty cool! Mostly red with flecks of yellow/green. I hope it will develop more of the yellowish flecks as I expose it to more sunlight over time. My plan is to leave it in the semi-shade by my water garden for now and then slowly move it out into more sun. Unfortunately, about three of the leaves had their midribs somewhat broken and those leaves won't stand up properly. Even though it looks a little crappy this way, I elected to leave them on for now as I figure it needs all the leaves it can keep to manufacture food, so I'm leaving them until the dry up some on their own. I'll try to post a pic later on.
