p.s. the largest pup is showing the green one side red the other trick so perhaps one plant will give pups of all forms in the end , or just revert to green.

Ron , I think a lot of people who recieved there Siam Ruby in the early Spring have a good number of pups on there plants. I'll grow these pups on for a couple of weekd and then select a good one for Pete.
Here is another thread I did at UKOasis
http://www.ukoasis.co.uk/viewtopic.php?t=6413&sid=ef7c7635c29173b9707854566212006a

I'll post more images here next year when Ihave flowers to show I hope , at the moment my plants are not up to the usual Bananas.org standard , but if I can get them through the Winter and into some 15 to 25 gallon pots next year I should have some good stuff to show.

Haha, bananas.org standards, sounds good:)
What are the bottles doing in the pots, is it a drip system or just for
comparison of the height. I think they are empty, isn't it?

Aha, thought so, 1 bottle is 1 foot, never too old to learn:)

It is not unusual for TC bananas to pup at an accelerated rate and earler when removed from culture. They should settle into more standard growth patterns as they mature.

Steve , you are some kind of a great guy to do that ! I hope they all do well .

Pete , not at all , you got to experiment with these plants and I think the whole plant will look beter for getting those pups off.
A single tall stem with a few good leaves at the top is the effect I'm after. My Musa 'Royal Purple ( a great pup from Gabe ) has three main stems and a load of pups , with this one I'm hoping for three flowers at the same time if that's possible.
I'll give you a call next week for an update and if the plant is looking good I'll send it off to you.

Wow, this is a great experiment Steve! How much corm was on each?

If anyone else does this, I would like to buy one. PM me. :2118:

Taylor , not much corm on them , each one has a corm about as big as the base of the stem. They are all still dong fine , there are a couple of loval guys waiting for a pup too . If I get a spare later I'l let you know Taylor.

It will be interesting to see what specific growth patterns/ growth rate this plant has versus other plants. Hopefully the corm isn't always that small. :2742:

I wasn't saying specifically you that I would buy a pup from. Just anyone who decides to do this to their Siam Ruby. What price do you think everyone should be charging? Keep me on the list though =]

Since the pups could well very variable if I was getting my first plant I'd go for a proven red one from Brian . As I now have a bit of a trading network going I'm happy to just post pups to Garden friends when and if I have them, as long as they know the form I'm sending and want one.As I said be fore I think one of the pups is becoming the one leaf top side green and one leaf top side red. I'm glad about this because I lost the ebay bidding on a half half plant and I went up to 90 dollars on it.
I could not comment on price of a normal red one as I buy a lot of plants but as soon as I have spares I give them away normally. The price for Siam Ruby has dropped to about 35 dollars now , I guess one could ebay one and see what price people will pay , I suspect around 20 bucks or so . Also it's late in the season and I guess small Siam Ruby will need a lot of care this winter.
I think the price for the green red split will stay up for awhile as they are a rare and very very nice form.

Taylor, there is a formula for the price.

M= the market-price for a TC-plantlet
H= the height of the pup in inches
A=(H:2) an amount for raising up the pup and additional costs

Here ya go

M+H+A=?????

Get your calculator

Steve, I wonder why so variable?

Ron, I like that formula. It'll come in handy, thanks.

Taylor , it's because it's a Chimera if I've spelt that right , meaning there Genes of the plant are changable and can throw out different forms from the same plant depending on which genes become active in the pup. I think that's right , I wait to be corrected by the more Knowledgable Members of the Forum :-)

Well I wonder how Agri-Starts is sorting all of these out for January 1st? Time to go search the trash cans for Green 'Duds'!

Steve!!! Great job!!!
I read this....GREAT pic's BTW... and have needed to repot my SR.. Yesterday I took it out of the pot and washed all of the soil off to see if my little pup could be seperated... I chickened out....It didn't look like I could get enough root to keep it going.. I did find another new pup on it's way tho...You give me hope..LOL Good Luck .. I hope they all survive...

Steve, mine started to put out leaves that progressively had more green segments in them (3 leaves). Then it went back to normal for the next three. I was hoping for the 1/2 & 1/2 myself, no such luck

If I'm luchy I should get a few more leaves on the new divisions in the next month before the cold sets in , crossed fingers mine does not go back to red.
Thanks for the info and good luck with your next pup.

Has anybody else had a "50/50" pup like Steve from a normal (?) red form? I'd like to get one for myself and one for a friend. I wonder if we'll se enough of these 50/50 plants next spring that the prices might come down.

Has anyone had one of the original light green forms put out a red pup? My green one just has green pups.
