I got some of these from Seedman.com. I soaked them for 24 hours and then planted them into a miracle grow. Nothing fancy, and nothing came up. So I was transplanting some other plant into the pot I used for these seeds that never really did anything. I actually was able to find them. So my question is should I soak them again or just plant them? I actually did my homework on what kind of soil I should using. Because I bought some more to try again. Looking closely at these seeds they appear to look like little buckeyes. There is a hole in each one, so I wonder if the seed is spent or will it germinate?

The soil I am using is miracle grow potting soil mixed with about 40% sand. I hope this works. DO I need to be more patience and accept these seeds take forever to grow?

Thank you for any advice

Nurseries offer starting mixes that are far better than miracle grow imo.

I understand but I dont have the nursery near by that's open this time of year. Well, that's what I'm not aware of if there is and if there is they would be like "come on this is Indianapolis, we don't grow Bananas around here". Just saying I'm an odd ball

Any sterile potting soil should work for starting seedlings; I even use baked compost.

I use vermiculite.

What are Giant Nepal Banana seeds? I can safely say I have never heard of this type of banana.

Edit: Further research has lead me to believe these are Ensete Glaucum seeds.

Yeppers, Ensete Glaucum. Very fast growing, I had one go from seedling to 10 feet tall by first fall.

I bought the seeds from Seedman.com on their site the plants look pretty impressive in its height and size of leaves. It was labeled as Giant Nepal. Otherwise I have no idea what any of these plants are called. I just know the difference between a red banana plant and a green one.

Its not a true banana, its an Ensete, a close relative. It does not form pups, instead making only one trunk and after several years it will flower, set seed and die. The types of Ensete I have tried can be stored overwinter in cool places like under a house. My Glaucum had very long leaves and surprised me by blooming and dying in the second year. Perhaps it was under stress from being overwintered bareroot and decided to reproduce itself in response. Think I might germinate some more, I really did like the way it looked.

This was mine at about 7 months old, the whole plant was already taller than me at this point. Sorry I dont have pics of the trunk, it is one of the most interesting features with its heavy white powder. The leaves start out in an opposite arrangement, and as the plant gets bigger it seems to twist making the leaves spiral.

My seeds survived into plants. I had ten seeds and only got 3..that is better than none.

Success! :08:
The sun kind of makes the second pic hard to see what's going on. The Nepal is in the foreground.

Any suggestions on what I should do with it for the winter? Should I bag it or dig it up to rest?
Oh yeah, the chicken wire fence is to keep the puppy out of. Next year I wont need to put a fence up. The garden will be expanded too :woohoonaner:
