Your Favorite Banana Is Facing Extinction As Deadly Fungus Spreads (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/bananas-extinction-cavendish-panama-disease_565eb2d3e4b08e945fed6712)
This article claims the Cavendish is going to be history soon. First the Gros Michael and now the Cavendish. What will replace them?
Probably won't happen in my lifetime and, since just about everyone in FL ends up with a DC for their 1st foray into musas and they pup like crazy, it's safe to say they won't disappear completely. Not in my lifetime.

That story has gone around ~5 years ago and it still has not happened. It is a hoax!
The plantations are far too spread out. If a fungus should wipe out the crop in a single region,
others will fill the gap and the affected region will, as Kat pointed out, soon be restored to
productivity after a period of quarantine
