I had 2 dwarf bananas. Becore they died they produced 11 pups. All doing great and they r about 10 months old. They r growing in pots in front of a nice sunny window. Also they r about about 12 to 18 inches tall. I just noticed 1 of them has what looks like 2 pups coming from it. Can they actually produce pups at an early age. Also what is a sword pup? Does dward bananas produce pups or sword pups or is their a difference? I heard only sword produce bananas. So confused.

Yes, Tracy.
Do you know what kind of bananas you have? How old were the parents when they died? Did they fruit or just die? I had a dwarf Cavendish that had a pup when I purchased her; I put the pup in her own pot. One day the original plant died (rotted I believe). 5 more pups grew from that corm. She was only about 30" tall but made more pups so age and size aren't the only factors.
Reading this forum is a great way to learn more about your plants.

So Sword pups are generally desired and easy to spot because they have sharp-thin leaves and tend to have bigger better roots (corm).

Swords are good.
I usually let mine get to about 3-4 ft tall out doors in the ground before spliting them off. You want them to have some corm and roots to get started on their own. Also like for them to have a few of the "mature" leaves instead of just the thin sword leaves.
