I was digging up a banana tree and had a tough time. Finally it came out and it has these giant root things growing out of the corm. What are these?
Now I have to get a giant pot to put this plant in for the winter :P

Isnt that just part of the corm? Basjoo send pups out several feet away and they grow from the corm right?
Sorry if I'm way off!

I ended up cutting it off and potting the plant. I still don't know what it is. Googling turned up nothing. There's another one on there that's smaller.
I think it's a Thai Black plant.

I think it's a Thai Black plant. Many tropical roots are edible; I wonder if this one is. (Think elephant ears--eddo roots. Don't laugh! Someone somewhere ate the 1st yam and Irish spud. And, of course, the tomato.)

The P-stem is black like my Black Thai, but the rest of the plant is darker then yours. Could be the picture of yours.

It's a rhizome... basically a big subterranean stem that eventually sprouts a new plant.
These are Musa 'Mekong Giant' rhizomes but they look very similar to what you have.
