Thank you Narnia and I appreciate your opinion....I was looking/comparing the FHIA-01 (Musa Goldfinger) to my mystery nanner and seems that the flower bud (FHIA-01) looks different to what I got....

It looks like a FHIA hybrid to me, too. Most likely (most widely available), if you are in the continental US, is the Agristarts off-type Goldfinger. The male bud of that one doesn't match the one shown in the photo of FHIA-01 you posted. FHIA-18 is another possibility.

The seller had brought them back from Puerto Rico thinking they were either Maricongo or the Maricongo clones Common Harton, Harton Selection Chago, or Corozal Selection 25. It probably didn't come from Agristarts and I doubt that Agristarts mislabeled Goldfinger is an off-type.

I am trying to grow large Maricongo variety from Puerto Rico here in Central Texas. I do a lot of gardening but never bananas and I just came from P.R and brought with me this babies in the pictures. They are 3 Maricongo variety and two Hawaiian bananas. I just plated then yesterday two in a container and 3 on the ground. I may need some help to do the winter part of this project so feel free to send suggestion at will. Ohhh I also have a Basjoo ML-02 but I think that one should be OK here in Texas.

Keith, you've certainly seen a heck of a lot more varieties than I have. And I haven't seen the Agristarts Goldfinger in person. Based on what you've seen, what variety do you think the banana is that Agristarts is selling as Goldfinger?

Thank you venturabananas and PR-Giants (Keith) for "chime in"......I appreciated guys.....
As Keith explained, I got the plant (mystery nanner) from forum member/seller (Vitin6039) who "says" he brought them back from Puerto Rico thinking there were PR Maricongo Plantains....I also doubt it that came from Agristarts...
I am posting new/more pictures of the mystery nanner in case it might help....

Well you certainly took the right pictures. I wish I could be more help. Would it give more clues to the members to give a tast report on the ripe fruit? What's the smoking gun to tell a plantain from a banana?

Do you have any photos of when the bud was just emerging or had just emerged? These photos show some spread petiole wings, which makes me think it could be something more Cavendishy.

Thanks, those photos made it easy to eliminate it from being a goldfinger.
In this earlier post you are comparing a new bud to a bud about 100 days older and if you read the image below, you would expect them to be different because they change as they mature. When comparing two buds they should both be at a similar stage of development.
Thank you Narnia and I appreciate your opinion....I was looking/comparing the FHIA-01 (Musa Goldfinger) to my mystery nanner and seems that the flower bud (FHIA-01) looks different to what I got....

Well, not a Cavendish -- the newly emerged bud is wrong for that and the petiole wings aren't spread enough. I'm back to thinking it is some FHIA (or other) tetraploid hybrid. Maybe something like SH-3640.

Am I correct to notice that the dried bracts and male flowers were removed by hand from the rachis in your series of photos, or did they fall off naturally? Just asking because it's important for ID to know how those behave.

Hector that's a great looking bunch.
Were the 2 photos that Gabe's referring to taken on the same day?
You have such an amazing collection of bananas.
The Verdin you are growing is a stellar cultivar. I harvested a huge bunch yesterday and eating some as I type.

Well, after looking and thinking and looking some more, I'm a little stumped at the moment, but if I had to wager one guess, it would be FHIA-02.
I'm not super confident on that, but keep posting photos as it develops, don't remove the bud, and maybe it will be easier to tell later on.

I'm not super confident on that, but keep posting photos as it develops, don't remove the bud, and maybe it will be easier to tell later on.
Thanks Mr. Gabe15 for your help and comments!
I will continuing posting photos as it develops, for sure. I will due a research (comparison) between my Mystery Nanner and the FHIA-2 "Mona Lisa"....Also, I got the second generation of my Mystery Nanner ready for flowering stage!....She is bigger (taller) and fatter (pseudostem) in diameter than the first one!....I will post pictures of the second generation of my Mystery Nanner soon!...
Also, in the second generation of my Mystery Nanner I will follow your advice.....I will not remove the bud, the dried bracts and male flowers from the rachis....I will leave it intact, just in case it makes easier to ID.....
