I have a tissue culture Goldfinger purchased in Florida, however, it does not have the characteristics of FHIA1. The one I have fruited at 5', had a messy rachis, and did not have the large, heart shaped male bud.

Wish I could get the real thing. Have 2 from different TC sources and have no idea what either of them are. The ones I got from someone on the org a couple years ago via Agristarts are clearly not Goldfinger, so only Agristarts is to blame.

Has anyone received Goldfinger from TARS? Their pictures seem to be the real deal...however their photos of Poni do not look anything like bananas in the Maoli group.

Well the fake one I've got is fantastic. There have been musings between some members that the "American Goldfinger" is an offtype of true FHIA-1. I have no way to really confirm that though. I think PR Giants might be the only active member who has true FHIA-1.

SDDarkman was selling the tc from agristarts.
So is that the real deal too?
:rollerbananadone:oooops...
Robguz answered that already!

The one I bought from him a while ago is one of the two not Goldfingers. That one is good and kind of fooled me because it met some descriptions of Goldfinger, including taste, similarily to DBs in how easily the bananas come of the hand, height, etc. I wouldn't hesitate to buy anything from SDDarkman. There is no error on his part.

It seems that a lot of these tc get mixed up, and or the plants that they are cloning are not identified correctly. I am going to purchase FHIA 1,2,and3 from keith(PR-Giants). I am zone 8. I don't want to Waite 3 seasons to find out I got the wrong plant. Order from Keith. He sends your order fast. He sends very large corms. He sends the right plants. Plus he is there after the sale for tips and troubleshooting.

I wish I could also order from Keith, but nobody can ship to Hawaii without issues. But most everyone else on the mainland could get from him.

Sounds like a good choice of naners.
I would do the same thing but in California
we can only receive tissue culture from out of state.
I would add the "super huge" SH3640 PRG brags about.

I will admit the sh3640 was not on my list. After researching it, and reading pages of opinions on the banana, I realized it should have been at the top of it.
:08: ITS ON THE LIST NOW

The SH-3640 should be at the top of your list....very short cycle banana to grow. One of the best of the FHIA line. I got mine from Keith about 4 months ago. Growing fast and beautiful!....

Hello I'm from Portugal
I´ve have several banana plants, different species, and last month I orderer a thousand gold finger, from www.forsthartepalmen.de
I recomend it.
My banana trees are just so amazing! Some of them I bought at Markus Senger, the others.... I got from sellers, and friends. Until today I could never harvest any. But nevertheless its always a landscape. By the way, does anyone here knows anything about growing peppers, I m a lover, or can suggest a blog/forum/org?

Just got off the phone with Agristarts...they were surprised to hear that the F-1 we have that came from them did not match the description of FHIA. Someone from AS should be calling back.

I would add the "super huge" SH3640 PRG brags about.
Thanks, but brags is an overstatement. Yes it's better than the other FHIA, PCB & Namwa types but not up to the quality of a store bought Cavendish.
