This is the first yr. I have grown Picasso.. It is growing Great and Pupped nicely.. My question is .The leaf stems break so easy.. is that just the nature of the Plant. I have had to cut loads off that just bend over and break. It is not wind damage.. just happens..
Any input would be appreciated!! :nanadrink:

Thanks Kylie

It's a cross between Ornata and Sikkimensis and yes I too have noticed the flimsy nature of it. It can't stand any wind because as you say the leaves just break.

Nice looking, but not much of a plant.

Probably a trait from being hybrid as regular Sikkimensis is pretty strong. Maybe big leaves, but too thin petioles. For example I really like the way the hybrid Canna "Intrigue" looks, but it is near impossible to keep it standing upright and not broken, if even a small breeze blows, even a heavy rain, and now I know why its not sold more, which seemed strange at first as beautiful as it is, and I am probably going to stop growing it.

Maybe a very sheltered area might work, you might try to move it for one more season and see how it does, but it sounds like the leaves just get too heavy and snap. It's just not worth it for my Intrigue.

LOL About the only place safer it could be is in the house.. I will probably just get rid of it.. Something that fragile just isn't worth the effort.. The space and be put to better use... Really a shame it is a Beautiful Banana!!!
