Was hoping someone would have experience or know. I hear the Tigua is a great short cycle banana. My question is all Iholena short cycle. Especially the Red Iholena?

Thanks

Should say I hear it is. Just from reading on here. Seems to be harder to find but you can get the red Iholena easily from TC sources. I was hoping it may be short cycle also if the Tiaua actually is. But I have no experience with either. Was hoping that someone who does would chime in. :nanadrink:

I'm not growing any Iholena subgroup bananas, but the Keppler and Rust banana book says that all cultivars in the subgroup are fast cycle.

I have read that also.
The plant has been in a few sub tropical forum members gardens for a short period of time this year so it might be too soon to evaluate just how fast this plant is....say like in my zone 5-+ garden for example.
Currently my mature Viente Cohol is in no hurry to flower.....but it looks nice:)

Hopefully, I will get some next year to do a possible side by side comparison with some other fast cycle plants. This year I could not get any plants to do this.

I have a red Iholena plant. It's about 8' tall. No flower yet. It is not in full sun kind of in the shade. It has 3 small pups. It's a beautiful plant, I can't wait until it flowers.

Some members have been growing it for over 10 years but regardless the University of Florida did a interesting study that included the Tigua. It had the fastest cycle time at 372 days, Prata Ana was second at 442, third was FHIA-03 at 453, and the rest were over 500.
Mysore 616, FHIA-17 690.

IMHO, if you're growing in Florida and want large bunches in a short amount time add a Tigua to your collection.

PR-Giants, how do you like to use the fruit of Tigua? Cooking, dessert, or both?

Yes, Prata Ana is Dwarf Brazilian. It is not short cycle.
