Have you ever used something other than a pot to grow your bananas?

The plant is much bigger now. That stainless steel tub is the inside of a washing machine. I was trying the airpot idea, but still wanted a rigid pot. And of course recycling is always nice. Anyway, I used this photo because it was already in my gallery. It was around 11pm when I finally figured out how to post pictures and it was too dark to get a fresh one. I will post a updated photo soon.

Thank goodness it wasn't from a cooking set. Now I'm wondering if your "pot" would make a good insert for steaming crabs...with a few holes in the bottom...must find a broken washing machine...

Here is the updated photo. Plant is doing very well. Planter holds about 25 gallons of dry soil. Planter had so many large holes on the bottom I was afraid of the soil washing out during watering. So I made a liner out of landscapers cloth and covered all the holes to keep the soil in the planter. The cloth still allows for air exchange. I think this would be a good way to plant a banana that has a problem with rotting roots. This pot drains!

Bravo!
With so many holes and air going through the soil,
I would imagine that you would have to water
these more often than you would a standard plastic pot?
Looks good! How long has it been since
the first photo? What variety is it?

That plant I believe is a Namwah. Another sad story of a Ice Cream banana tc that didn't come true. O well. I will still get a Blue Java one of these days. The first picture was from April 26. So a little under 4 months. It took off real slow at first. Now the cigar leaf is ripping apart it's growing so fast. I am going to look for more of these tubs, maybe larger ones, for future planting. It's fun to try something different. Leave the road-make a trail.
