:2691: Hola! I'm hoping to learn more about banana cultivation here. Since I live in one of the hottest, driest places on this planet I have some unique challenges in growing non-native plants.
I have an urban farm and currently raise chickens, quail, ducks and tilapia in addition to food gardening. The fruit trees are carefully placed since space is at a premium so the banana plants will have to be kept in check. I have a Rajapura that's been in the ground a couple of months and just rescued a couple of Red Cavendish plants from the discount bin at Lowe's. I'll give one of those away and plant the other one...somewhere.
It would help if we knew where the hottest, driest place on this planet (or one of them) is located. Why not let us in on the secret by editing your profile? (That stupid map didn't work for me.)
I love the discount bins; rescuing the discarded is so rewarding.

Sounds like you are close to us? We have chciken's as well.. I won't let them get close to the banana plant!! Our duck's will eat just about anything that's green.
What breed of duck's do you have?

I did pin it, but I have no idea how the thing works. I'll try editing my profile.
I'm in Tempe AZ, and it's very hot and dry. Technically it's USDA zone 9b, but with extreme summers. Typical summer days are triple digit temps with single digit humidity. We get light frosts in winter most years and have the odd harder frost once or twice a decade that is just murder on tender tropicals. :coldbanana:

Yes very close as a matter of fact! Muscovy ducks inhabit the yard but you've seen my ducks since you gave me one of them. Good to see you here my friend! :nanablowskisses: I guess you found this place independent of me.

Welcome to the Banana Express, Red Sky. :nanerwaveytrain:
Your plants are going to need a lot of watering and partial shade to keep from drying up and blowing away, in Tempe.
That's a nice shot of the saguaros in your avatar. I wish they could take the cold here, but I have to settle for prickly pear, cholla and yuccas in my desert scaping.

Cool, neighbors! lolYeah, it's funny when you inadvertently run into someone you know when you don't expect it.
About five years back, I got an email from someone inquiring whether her tree was a dawn redwood or not. I recognized the email as belonging to an actress that was in a movie that I was also in at the time. I'm like, "Hey Karen, this is D.A.! Just bring a clipping to the set tomorrow," LOL. :ha:

Ya the storm was crazy especially for this time of year. The plants and critters sure loved it, nice break from the heat.

The saguaros are in my sister's property in Rio Verde AZ. Amazing plants, too bad you can't grow them outside there. If you want any seeds let me know, we get plenty!
