Basjoo is not grown in Okinawa. I have the M. Basjoo planted in my home garden in Okinawa but it doesn't grow well. It may probably never bloom because for years it stays so small. I am growing the original M. Basjoo in my forest garden here in Mie Prefecture, mainland Japan where the climate is temperate. We reach minus 2 Celsius in the winter. Until last year I had only M. Basjoo clones, but last year I was able to grow M. Basjoo from seeds. The M Basjoo blooms are hardly ever pollinated, most of the female flowers fall from the bunch without pollination. Lately, every other year I am harvesting bunches well pollinated as you can see in my pictures. I can send some seeds to you if you want after I harvest the ripe bananas. LOL
