hey guys,
Does anyone know if Miracle gro potting mix is good and well draining for bananas? thks:0519:
I personally don't like it. I use a mix of peat moss ,black earth, coarse sand, manure ( chicken, cow and sheep) and coconut fiber. It works for me. Not sure of proportion though, I go by the eye. Coarse sand is very important. And I put 3/4 inch gravel at the bottom of the container. It helps for drainage and the pot stands up when windy. Hope it helps...

Howdy, Gordon.
In my experience, general-purpose potting mixes--regardless of manufacture--are too heavy of a soil for healthy, rapid growth here in south-central Florida. To your climate and growing conditions I can't necessarily speak. But I would encourage you to use a growing medium--or modify an existing one--that encourages better root aeration.

The only type of miracle gro mix I use is the cactus mix for other things. I don't like their stuff cause it always has moisture control added to their mixes it seems. I use promix 2 and add perlite to it for little better drainage.its a solid mix for me. little more expensive but I like it better then most mixes.
Promix is nice but even better if you mix it with a bit of compost and coarse sand... Just sayin'. But still, I prefer it to miracle grow.
