I am based in UK. I have a lovely Musa Sikkimensis 'Red Tiger' which has superb red stripes, it is currently about five feet tall with latest leaves about two feet long producing one leave a week.
Anybody have experience in being a father of pups in the UK?
What month can I expect some?
Any budding fathers out there?
Thanks.

Hi Carpy I have a small 2 1/2ft variegated sikki that has a couple of very small pups on it and they are in a pot still. I don't think there is a certain month that they pup ( the summers a better chance though ).
My Sikki planted in the garden at five feet has none as of yet and its feed with chicken poo and watered well yet the one in the pot gets quite neglected.

I also feed mine with lots of chicken poo, I seem to have good results with this all over the garden, tree ferns, cannas, bamboo etc..all love it!!
Maybe I ought to get some chickens!
I have noticed in garden centres that bananas seem to pup easliy when they are pot bound. Just an observation.
We will see what August/September brings as my tiger has really striking leaves. I thought it was around about this time of year I could be a Dad!

I've got 3 Sikkis planted out in my garden at the moment. The 2 biggest have got a couple of pups from last year, but as yet haven't made any new ones.Other types are pupping but as yet no new Sikkis. But I'm sure they wll soon.

Proud owner of two pups!!
One of them has really striking mottled leaves, I think I will be lifting this soon and pot up as backup for the winter.
Really chuffed.
My sikki seeds have done nothing as yet, two months. Might give up on these.

well done mate.
Don't give up on the seeds just yet some can take 6 months or more.

I still have some M. sikkimensis 'Red Tiger' seeds that haven't sprouted yet...they were planted on Feb. 7th of this year. I plan to leave them until next spring to see if they will sprout after going through the cooler winter months.
