Banana Seeds in retail packets for the home gardener (http://www.seedman.com/banana.htm)

Ive ordered Palm seeds from them before
with meager success for germination.

Has anyone here have successfull
germ rates with naner seeds?

They have flowering musa ornata, velutina
and becarii seeds@ $2.95 for 5 seeds.
So hopefully if you only get a 20% germination rate,
1 of those 5 seeds will grow and get a plant for such
a low price...pretty 1 too.

Check them out!

Please chime in for those who have tried
and germinated ornamental banana seeds.

The flowering ornatas, velutinas, becarii and ensete
look interesting and a good aesthetic idea
to supplement the fruiting naners I already have.

Should be a good time to germinate seeds
now and plant them out in spring next year!

Funny thing, Im running out of room in my garden!

rarepalmseeds.com - palm seeds, cycad seeds, banana seeds (http://rarepalmseeds.com/small.shtml)

This site carries musa seeds and many other plants
from fruit trees to agaves, gingers
and heliconias and many more.
This site though requires a minimum
order of $30+.

Happy Growing!

I have never ordered banana seeds from there, but I have ordered Canna Tuerckheimii, they arrived pretty quick, and all germinated. Of course banana seeds are usually harder to germinate. I have had good success with a seller on ebay named Mark Davies seeds. Had Musa Sikkimensis Red Tiger, plain green, and Musa Yunannensis all germinate.

Heres a thread that discusses the difficulty
in germinating naner seeds.
I was hoping the experts on the site
would chime in and give us their insight.

We can go through the retailers or even better,
if members with near maturing/seeding trees
to sell the FRESH seeds to members.

Well that is what some avid palm collectors
do once their trees produce seeds.
They sell the fresh seeds to members
@Palmtalk.org or sell to seed retailers.
Nothing really beats germination rates
from freshly harvested seeds.

Happy Growing!

Assuming you have 100% germination...

You could always get different varieties
or seeds other than musa or ensette.

Try Seedman, no minimums.

Perhaps you can provide the link to
your retailer so others have a choice.
BTW I just noticed there is a
seed germination section on this site.

I purchased a heat pad for $20 from a hydroponics store.
I place the heat pad inside a flat storage tote with a lid
and bury the pads under an inch of sand to distribute the heat.
Baggies, zip lock or tupperware I use with
germination soil placed over the heat pads.
Some palm seeds have a hard outer shell/coat.
In palm culture we delid or emeryboard/nail file this seed coat.
I think some ensettes have this as well?

Anyone else want to share their germination experience?
