I was looking through some old posts and PR Giants pointed out that the org had its first post 7/5/05. I am sure that a lot of things have changed since then. How has it changed for you? How have you changed how you grow bananas? Did you change which bananas you grow? Maybe nice to point out how a org member got you through that tough time when you needed advice. How long have you been with the org, and how did you find it? How did you get your first plant? Are you still growing that line? The plant you just can't get rid of no matter how much it disappoints you. The plant you couldn't Waite to get rid of. The plants that you lost for whatever reason and the members that puped you up. This thread could have lots of possibilities. So please, new and seasond members feel free to add to this.

My first banana plant was a dwarf Orinoco tc that I got online. I killed it in about 3 months. I couldn't get it to grow no mater how much water I gave it. Yes it rotted. My second attempt was and still is a ice cream tc that also was bought online. It looks like a Namwah to me. That plant quickly got too tall to be in the house and I brought it over to my mothers a put in her sun room. I have one of its pups. Since then I have grown Truley Tiny in my garden window and it did well for two years. This year I moved it outside and burned the leaves, but now it is doing very well. This year my collection has added Basjoo, Orinoco, Tall Red, Veinte Cohol, and Patupi. I would like to thank Al for his generosity. Two of my new plants came from him and we are in contact all the time. You are a good friend Al. Also like to thank Keith of PR Giants. My Veinte Cohol and my Patupi are from you and you helped me through that scare when I thought the Patupi was rotting away. You are a wealth of knowledge. I found the org while looking for info on the banana plants I had, and finally after so many visits I was locked out and had to become a member. I really like this site and try to visit every day. I would also like to thank all the people behind the scenes, pushing the buttons, and making this whole thing happen.

I think I joined in 2008. I was renting a house that had bananas and I wanted to know what they were. They were dwarf cavendish. A few months later I had rented 5 acres and started growing bananas commercially. I had some grande nain, dwarf namwah, misi luki, and kandrian...all from tissue culture. I have been growing commercially ever since. I now have about 25-30 cultivars. I got interested in nursery science. I ended up doing my dissertation on hardening tissue culture bananas. It's been a fun ride.
I joined soon after I purchased a DC for myself on Mother's Day in 2013; this was about a year after I moved to FL. Though I have many years of gardening experience, the most tropical fruiting plant I'd ever grown was a calamondin orange I raised in a south facing plate glass window in MD for over 10 years until the EX killed it. (I'd originally wanted a kumquat but, as usual, cheaped out because this was an experiment. Yes, I kicked myself every time I picked fruit but made yummy marmalade so it worked out.)
Despite being a late joining member I felt welcomed and right at home from my very 1st post. Nice place. Nice people. Lots of great information.
