I have had this banana growing wild in my yard for years. No idea what she might be. The bananas are a small, slightly tangy favored fruit..quite tasty. I have never given it much thought until recently when i have started to collect bananas. She has a pup along side her and there are two pups growing on the other side of the fence...this fruiting trunk is probably 7th or 8th generation....It's probably 8' tall at maturity....here are the pics...any ideas?

I've gotten feedback from another forum that it may be a dwarf orinoco. Here is a picture of another of its pups i moved to the opposite side of my yard several months ago...this is the size i expect to see it flowering soon

well, whatever variety it is, it has two things going for it. First, its a dwarf, no taller than 8' when it fruits, secondly the fruit is delicious.....So it has earned a place in my yard for all these years and it is here to stay.

Yeah I haven't gotten fruit and who knows if I ever will get fruit but it is a great looking banana and a really tough banana. Can handle cold well and doesn't tear to easily from the wind. I was wondering how the fruit tastes cause I always see mixed reviews. do you have to let it get really ripe before eating plain

i wait for the first signs of yellowing then pick the bunch...this is a skimpy bunch of bananas from this cultivar this year, she can produce 30-50 in a bunch on a good year...of course the problem is (as with most bananas) they all seem to want to ripen at the same time. That is when i donate to the local food bank and freeze some for myself.

The flower looks like Orinoco, and the leaf canals are closed like Orinoco.
