I've had two areas on my lot with unknown bananas that were here before I moved in and have been providing fruit for over eight years I have owned my house. This summer two that were full of green immature banana stalks just fell over. They get watered, fertilizer, mulch and nothing has changed in their care but this is the first year I've experienced this problem.
In the past I've propped them up but none fell over so fast. What can be causing this?
Try posting some pics, that might help... Good luck.

Yes photos will help diagnose, and what part of the country do you live in? Could be a disease, for example in Florida, that other places further north dont have.

I have the problem with older mats. I guess they get tightly packed. Did you get some wind?

a good quick gust of wind is all it takes, or a few good days of rain to loosen the soil. I even had a raccoon knock mine over while trying to steal them.
and sometimes they just fall from gravity.

I figured out you have to shrink the upload size of them also, if they are too big it will say uploading but is blank.

They are just breaking 3' from the ground, no wind, no crowding. They seemed healthy otherwise, just that the fall was so sudden I didn't get a chance to prop them up.

Did you remove any pups? Sometimes that will leave them unbalanced until they replace the roots.

I even had a raccoon knock mine over while trying to steal them. How the hell big are your raccoons?!
How the hell big are your raccoons?!Size really doesn't matter when it comes to coons. I trapped a baby that was frequenting my chicken coop. Set the trap after 2 full sized roos (5 to 7 lbs) were killed. They were at least twice that bugger's weight. He won their match because he had teeth and claws while they only had beaks and spurs. Buzzards enjoyed chewing on what was caught in the trap. Life goes on....

It was more of a quip; envisioning a raccoon stealing a banana tree...

climb a rubber tree plant." :0517:
