Hello all. I hope to learn a lot here on this great forum and I'm sure I will.
I've always loved the tropical look of the banana trees. This year my wife and I decided to try and make our yard as tropical looking as possible here in NC. Its coming along really well I must say, I'm happy with the progress so far. To help finish up the tropical/rainforest theme I'm going for I knew I needed some banana trees. I ordered 4 musa basjoo's and they finally got delivered yesterday. They weren't in the best of shape but they still looked good and very much alive. Now with all that being said I think I re-potted them wrong. First I placed about 3 inches or so of black cow manure and compost in the bottom of the pots (clay) then I made my own mix using the black cow manure compost, the organic potting mix, with another different blend of organic potting mix and some blood meal all blended together. I then sprinkled some granules of miracle grow all purpose plant food on top of the soil I just made. I then watered them pretty good with the water out of my koi pond. I had very good intentions but I'm thinking in the back of my mind that the mix is and won't be good for my young banana trees. Should I change the mix to the cactus/palm mix or leave it alone and see how it does? I don't want to keep on stressing them out by another re pot attempt. Any and all help would be very much appreciated. 3 plants will be outside and 1 I would like to keep Potted if I can and let it be a house or patio plant. Thank you all again.

The cactus/palm mix is what I started mine in over the winter. You can put yours directly into the ground now. For that, you will need a good, well drained soil. Dig a hole a couple feet in diameter, to ensure good drainage around the plants.

Welcome aboard. :0519:
