This was a surprise that I got to taste today after a friend gave me some he grew. It's been a while since I've tried a new banana and it's always interesting!

TEXTURE-Mostly fluffy with the inner part being more firm and rubbery like a Namwah.

FIRMNESS-Very soft. Kind of like biting into a pillow.

SWEETNESS-Pleasantly sweet. Not too sweet.

TARTNESS-Somewhat tart. Less than a DB, but enough to be noticeable and enjoyable.

RIPENESS-Tasted totally yellow with some brown. More astringent and not as good the day before this. Still a touch of green on the pedicel.

FLAVOR-Pleasant and not especially strong. Hard to describe because it is just a combination of sweet and sour. Closest in flavor to a good Ice Cream.

OTHER-Not very aromatic. Nice thick skin. Brown spots didn’t have bruising on the fruit. 1 string stuck to fruit, which is much better than a ripe Ice Cream which generally needs several pulled off. Grown by a friend 15 miles from me in a similar, but wetter climate.

OVERALL RATING-7.5 This is a good, not great, banana. I think of it as what Ice Cream would be like if it was really good. It is kind of fluffy like an Ice Cream and the taste is similar, yet in both respects Sweetheart is much better. Wanted more even after eating 2. Not as good as FHIA-01 or 02. After trying those I wanted to plant more and more. After trying this, I’m glad I have it, but I won’t be planting more than a few. I’ll be happy when they a harvested though. So far in my top 10 or so favorites. I’m not rating it cooked. I did steam one with salt and ate it cooked with some slight yellowing. It was ok and kind of boring. I also ate one cooked with some coconut milk, cinnamon and maple syrup and that was better (duh), but not as tasty as some others I had prepared the same way (Iholena & Kru). It attaches to the hand very well even when ripe.

SUGGESTED USE-This is a very good dessert banana that seems to take some abuse, so is good to take for lunch. I enjoyed the fluffy texture in this case, while I generally don’t like that quality in most bananas. My partner tried one in his cereal and didn’t like it.

Not really like a Namwah. I actually like it better and I do like Namwahs.

Just had some in my yard. Your report is just about spot on with my experience. The only other way I would describe it is as if someone blended a goldfinger with a kandarian. Goldfinger so far is my favorite. But there are plenty out there i have yet to try.

Interesting! I look forward to getting Kandarian soon.
