This plant is correctly known as Musa laterita, it is a distinct species from Musa ornata.

M. laterita is still my most reliable ornamental banana for flowering.

Circa 1990, I grew it in a 10" pot and kept it short by treating with the growth regulator, Bonzi (paclobutrazol):
