I was just wondering roughly how long until these bananas will start to look 'fuller'. I have one dwarf Cavendish and two basjoos. For future reference I'll update with pics for other users. So far, they've been in the post for one week. I'm hoping the temps will stay above 70 from here on out. I'm in Zone 5. I do realize that the real answer is it depends. To give a little more info, I do not use fertilizer yet but plan on getting banana fuel, do not have them in full sun yet as the weather has been poor, they are growing in Miracle Grow moisture control and coconut husk. Thanks for any help!

Looking good so far!
My guess would be it will take 2 more months of warm weather to really achieve a decent size plant that has 8 or more leaves.
The plants that grow from tissue culture are slow to start. My basjoo looked like that 2 years ago and grew to 4 foot by the end of the first summer.

Unless you are doing the old in and out with them the night temps are going to dictate when they start to really take off. Even with daytime temps in the 80's, all it takes is a few hours of 50f or less to shock them and stunt any growing for a few days.
You are right to lay off the fert and limit the light until you have steady growth. Hang in there. You are doing everything right.

I used rooting stimulant on mine and put them out a month early. They're two inches in diameter already. I'm also using a dilute MG solution at least once a week and watering every day as well. The biggest one is close to 3' tall already. I expect 10 footers by the end of the season.

Time for an update. I'm pleased with a few so far but one of the basjoos looks to be doing poorly. Any thoughts? It's been 10 days since the last posting. We've had crappy weather with nonstop rain. I've been sheltering on the porch and pulling out into sun for a few hours. Again, I live in Central NY. Is that sun burn on the one, might they be getting too much sun? Too little water? I will say that as soon as one leaf opens, another starts poking up by the end of the day. Is the progress at a decent pace for new plants? One last question, I'm thinking about ordering two more, a veinte cohol and one more basjoo from going bananas. Is it too late? Will the plants be much larger?
The good basjoo:

Great looking plants.
To me your plants look fine and healthy.
When plants are that young your first parental response is to water and feed.
Resist.
Stay the course and add as much sun as possible to those small guys.
I would be worried only if the new leaves immediatly exhibited the browning traits.
Go ahead and get your other plants because you're going to bring them indoors for the winter anyway so why not get them now and bulk them up a bit.

A week later, another update. Pleased so far but temps have still not been ideal. I'm getting a new leaf opening about once a week. http://s24.postimg.org/wdzbxo19h/IMG_20150626_125537.jpg

Also, brought my pineapple home from my classroom for the summer. It's happy too.

Time for another update. Ordered two more from going bananas. One came in as a leafing tissue culture, the other as a corn. Both look slow to grow but have been in the ground for one week. The form has no leafs. Does it look healthy? How long until growth is visible? Thoughts on the others? First time grower so I'm still learning about them. http://s27.postimg.org/lpjosnkc3/IMG_20150710_194704.jpg

Time for another update. I think I finally have things under control. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated as I am still new to this. http://s13.postimg.org/q2f8t816f/IMG_20150817_171320.jpg

Did my Basjoo just have a baby? First pup ever, if it is one.

Additional update, I thought it was interesting that the smaller Basjoo started pupping first, but now my tallest Basjoo also has a pup. The pup on the smallest: http://s18.postimg.org/7y8a0hytl/IMG_20150904_123139.jpg
The taller Basjoo pupping:

Also, I'm hoping my papaya buds open soon before I have to bring it inside. I'm hopeful as we have a stretch in the 80s for the next few days.

IfIt is strange how there is no rhyme or reason for the first plant to start having pups. My smallest basjoo pupped first. I did pour the last sip of my Coors next to it the night before. So maybe she got a little buzzed and didn't use the proper protection. Your plants look great
