Hi - I would like to find a true FHIA1 Goldfinger banana plant.

I'm in zone 10 Los Angeles. I grow lots of deciduous, citrus and a few subtropicals, and I'm reserving a small SW facing wall for bananas.

Does anyone know of a good source of FHIA1 'Goldfinger' in So Cal? I saw some mail order in Florida, but it's probably not legal to ship here?

I'd love some other musa recommendations...I hear 'ice cream' is wonderful but very disease-susceptible. I don't want to go for the disease prone varieties. Perhaps then FHIA3 'Sweetheart?'

What square footage should I alot each goldfinger?

Welcome to bananas.org.
I am not sure about a reliable source for Goldfinger, FHIA 1 here in SoCal.
I grow the "real deal" Blue Java" / Ice Cream but they are not disease susceptible at all.
If you only have limited space available, I would highly recommend a Namwah or dwarf Namwah plant and /or any variety out of the Mysore group like Pisang Klotek or Pisang Ceylon. Those produce very well here in SoCal and are simply delicious.

Hi, I have what was sold to me as a goldfinger. Is it the real thing, not sure. It curently has 2 pups. I'm in riverside if you want one. They are small so maybe in a month they would be ready.

In central California they are everywhere, you have to go to several nurseries just to find something different

I got a couple that started life at Agristarts. They aren't the real thing, but they are good and similar to what the real Goldfinger is supposed to be.
