View Full Version : Cut my Viente Cohol by mistake...
I had planted a nice Viente Cohol and it has been in the ground since 6 weeks and had finally started to grow when I slipped and stepped on it to the degree it cut off at soil level.
The top even came with one room, long white and nice so it is planted in a pot in the shade and I hope it will recover but maybe.
My question is if you think it can work and also would the corm sprout any new growth you think?
So far after a week there is no sign of life in the soil.
Thanks
I don't think the top will continue to grow, but I could be wrong. The part in the ground should grow. My dog has broken off my Viente Cohol plant twice and it keeps coming back. Just give it some time.

If it had a root, it is very possible it will re sprout more roots in a glass/jar of water.I have tried to take pups before from several bananas, and missed the roots. I got them to regrow by placing in a glass of water, but it depends on if you got part of the corm or not, if the cross section of the the stem that you can see only has rings in it, that is just the leaf sheaths and you probably missed the corm, if it has a solid white mass with small speckles in it, that would be the corm and growing tip.
I put it in soil should I take it out of the pot and put in water instead?

I have always just rooted them in water because of no, or little roots, also less soil pathogens, but I always change the water every few days. I have rooted basjoo, raja puri, and musella this way. It may try to survive in soil if it has a root, but if it had none I would not try it in soil.
Thanks, I think I will take my chances since it has been in the solid now for over a week it feels wrong to pull it up. Hopefully it will make it. Since it has finally topped raining in Dallas maybe sitting in the shade in soil will be successful?

Hope it survives the hurricane!
Maybe I am testing fate now but it seems the plant in the pot is surviving, leaves are still green and I see a root coming out at the bottom.
The one in the flowerbed though, no sign of any pup.
