I have been watching my banana plants very closely, and have noticed on now two varieties (Saba & Mysore) that the final leaf or two before flower, the tips as they emerge are extra floppy and sometimes even slightly whiter/discolored. This is perhaps the first 6 inches of the leaf, and only really noticeable as the curled leaf is emerging just past being inside the petiole.
Any one else noticed this?
I have an SH-3640 & Raji Puri close to flower, and I'm waiting to test this theory.

I've not noticed that, but I have noticed that it starts putting out smaller, not as long leaves before the flag leaf comes out. every one of mine have done that so far

Calcium deficiency? I add lime when mine do that. It affects all cultivars. They all starting showing signs recently, and sure enough they were overdue for lime.

Here we try not to get too excited about those slightly curled leaves, they just mean another huge bunch is on the way... and sure enough that's what it always turns out to be.

PR Giants - Thats a nice mysore curly leaf . Mine looked just like that, but not as big. That white, curled up tip is exactly what I was referring too. Leaf just looks super limp.
I doubt calcium deficiency, I'm basically growing in coral rock.
Is there a scientific reason as to why this happen?
Have you noticed it happen across different varieties?
