Since I am limited to a ceiling height of about 8/9 Ft in the GH, I am looking for pups or TC of - D. Namwa , D. Brazilian & Cali Gold. If anyone knows a reliable source or has any available I would love to purchase 1 or 2 of each.:bananas_b

Bananas send up their new leaves vertically. Although the cultivars you mentioned have a fruiting height of 5' to 7' (pstem height), the leaf height will exceed the ceiling of your greenhouse.
:lurk:

I have some 5ft types they do fine, never touch. The 6ft & 7fters will probably crash in a little but you can guide the leaves as they are pushing vertical to create a nice arch out of the leaf as it is forming, minimizing the damage. But you're right there will be some damage.

I have mats for these 3 varieties but no pups yet this season..my D. Braz grows taller than D namwa and Caligold ..I guess it is still dwarf as standard Braz reaches 20ft. might need a roof strecher.

Mats are starting to show some green - If you don't find the pups you want - check back - Almost 80 F today won't take long for pups to start. :waving:

I grow Dwarf Brazilian as well as Dwarf Namwah.
Dwarf Brazilian is definitely shorter than the Dwarf Namwah. As a matter of fact the fruit bunch is conveniently hanging in shoulder height, while Dwarf Namwah is about 8' to 10' tall plus leaf canopy (my tall Namwah in comparison is fruiting at about 15').

I post something about the Dwarf Namwah height a couple months ago. Mine has an established corm and hit a height of 14.5ft (maybe a little taller) this year.

http://www.bananas.org/f310/dwarf-namwah-oddly-tall-year-21098.html

My Brazilian on the other hand is about a year old. The corm is not as establish but it is only about chest high.

There is a guy down the street from me who has over a dozen of something dwarf that fruit at 3-4ft. I have been meaning to ask what they are. Next time I'm down there I'll try and get the name.

Hmmm - sounds like my D Braz may not be a D Braz.
Here is a photo of my D Braz last season - top of the window in the picture is 6 ft - My D. Braz nanas push to 9 ft. Those are double Moiha on the right and DC on left http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag113/jose2631/DBraz%209-8-13_zpsby3yaoec.jpg (http://s1301.photobucket.com/user/jose2631/media/DBraz%209-8-13_zpsby3yaoec.jpg.html)
D Namwa photo below bloomed last season at 6.5 ft http://i1301.photobucket.com/albums/ag113/jose2631/DNamwa_8-23-14_zpswixfb7wz.jpg (http://s1301.photobucket.com/user/jose2631/media/DNamwa_8-23-14_zpswixfb7wz.jpg.html)
Caligold below bloomed at roughly 7 ft in august - the photo below isn't final height - the meter on the shed wall is @ 5 ft. This was early before full growth.

Tall Namwah blooms at 11 to 12 ft. Orinoco about the same - maybe a bit higher..

So, If it isn't a D. Braz - any guesses?

Could still be a D. Braz. I suspect mine may still be establishing a solid corm.

Bananas mutate. Reversions of "dwarf" to "standard" are possible. Note that there are "standard" heights shorter than some "dwarf" heights. The latter term is only used when two different heights are available for a cultivar.

Then there is the phenomena of fruiting bananas growing among other competing plants (possibly other bananas). When bananas are in a situation where they are competing for overhead light (e.g., at crazy_banana's house) then they often grow taller than usual. Many a person on this site has observed this.

Possible, but I think that the awesome "Fruit Fuel" does what it is supposed to do.....

Nana fuel definitely helps - I also started supplementing with 0-0-50 last year - it made a huge difference as well. eight bunches hanging when the b ig freeze hit last winter..

I am interested in the nana that flowers at 3-4 ft - unless it is a Cavendish.
wondering if anyone is interested in a trade - I would like a shorter D. Braz if it only reaches 6-7 ft. My D. Namwa only reaches about 7 ft. also my Caligold is 7ft.
I cleaned up nana mats this weekend - pups are emerging.:woohoonaner:

TJ, yours might still be a "Happy Dwarf Brazilian". Has it fruited yet? Try to post some more photos besides the one here in the "ID" section. Some traits to narrow the variety down would be the petiole (open on DB), outlining of the petiole, the infloresence ( DB retains the bracts), fruit bunch ( spacing and # of fingers, ease of harvest/ mine are almost falling of on my DB).
DB is a nice plant, but I have hit my head multiple times by running into the fruit bunch 😎

Whats up with the "dwarf green" supposed to be a 6fter, about the size of D. Cav. anyone have experience with is , I thought it was super D. Cav at first but, I believe that is not the case?

Ryan, I'm hoping you've understood that a given height is the pstem height at the time of fruiting. Also, bananas from purely tropical areas can take 1.5 to 5 years to fruit in the subtropics - even in a greenhouse.

Richard, thanks for the heads up, I think we all value your input, it's pretty impressive what you have done at your new place. The area that the bananas reside is in the warmest area, never below 50f. I have a colder zone that gets to 40f that's for the citrus and some other more hardy tropicals. For the most part it pretty tropical and they have done very well, even after our extreme winter. My problem is becoming height not growth :) They are all dug inground I use what is, I belive your product banana fuel. This will be my 2nd year growing bananas (not sure why it tool me so long).:waving:

Crazy -The DB mat hasn't fruited - I hope it will this season as I have 2 pstems that did not freeze back to ground level and are starting at about 4 ft high-
thanks
