Does anyone have any reccommendations for reliable tc banana suppliers? I was mainly after hawaiian varieties, red iholena, dwarf white etc. apparently aloha tropical is a little unreliable regarding cultivar.

For Hawaiian varieties, I don't think there are any reliable suppliers of TC bananas to hobbyists.

I was interested in varieties like red iholena, dwarf white, maoli as well as thai black and pitogo. I did see alohatropicals but not good reviews.

I bought a Kru and Praying Hands banana plant from aloha tropical at the end of last year. I just put them in the ground yesterday. Hopefully I got what I ordered. :islandsharkbanana::banana_ba

If you did, then you'd be having much better success with them than Rob has. Personally, I've never had a problem with them -- but I've also never ordered banana plants from them! Good luck.

Do most people just trade corms?

Trade corms or roll the dice

In 2013 I went a little crazy and ordered Gros Michel, Veinte Cohol, ARH, 1000 fingers, Double Mahoi, Sumatrana x and a zebrina banana plant from Florida Hills. The Sumatrant x and Zebrina Banana plants have no red spots so they are probably not what I ordered. I just put them both in the ground, so I hope they flower this year. I also got a Green-red, Raja Psiang, Sweetheart and Texas Star (probably an Orinoco) from GreenEarth. The Texas Star and Green-red didn't make it. The other two had some setbacks but seem to be coming back.

I have a Goldfinger Banana plant, Tall Red, Enano Gigante (Dwarf Giant) and a Raja Puri that produce great fruit. I also have the Fake Ice-cream from HD and the Namva from my neighbor that always produce.

I will keep everyone updated.:bananas_b

9 of 11 cultivars I ordered from Aloha Tropicals are not correct. Was completely ignored when I emailed asking for a refund of replacement.

Hi Rob out of the 9 wrong plants you received were they at least Hawaiian varieties or were they all just common banana plants that you could have gotten at Home Depot? At lease from HD the plants are larger for around the same price. Thanks Susan

The one Hawaiian variety(Ele Ele) turned out to be Namwah. Actually 3-4 were Namwah. Got a 1000 fingers, DB, praying hands, and another I've yet to ID. They weren't common, but it's no fun growing something for a couple years just to rip it out.

I've always had great experiences with Green Earth Inc greenhouse business! !! Not a huge selection but you receive wonderful healthy tissue culture plants . Ted runs a good business there.

The babies I got from GreenEarth in 2012 should flower this year. Two out of the three plants I purchased lived (California Gold, Gran Nain, and Williams). The plants are healthy. When they flower (hopefully with everyones help) I can confirm what I ordered is what I got.

If you want to take a chance they have Red Iholena and red green this year. I got one of each. I couldn't help myself.:nanadrink:

You shouldn't have a problem with variety when it comes to green earth, I never have anyway. Can't wait to see pictures of your plants in bloom .
