Hi all

My neighbor was throwing this out.
i was picking it up for the compost pile
and i saw roots.

i am a newb when it comes to nanas
i know they will die and come back
thats about it.

I need a banana plant for the carbon / compost
and to help protect my papaya during the winter.

can i use that little chunk of roots as well ?
(on the brown paper)

and is planting depth OK ?
assuming its not going to die anyway.

If it already flowered then the corm (bulb-like structure at bottom) will not grow a new stock. However, it might sprout another corm to the side and if so, it will eventually grow a stalk.

Most likely the only useable outcome is getting the corm to pup, which is quite possible.

Those roots look kinda dead, but anything's worth a try!

In Zone 10, you should be able to plant at ground level or an inch below. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong though. :D
