I am guessing I have some Basjoo bananas here based upon other pictures I have seen here at this forum, the fact that its cold hardy and the red strip on the leaf??
Thanks in advance- michael

Sure looks like one to me. A closeup of the pseudostem where the petioles meet it would be good, but I'm 99% sure that's Musa basjoo. How long have you had it?

Hi all,
I think the most distinctive difrerence between Basjoo and other species
is that most of other bananas have white waxy powder on the stem and
petioles while Basjoo doen't.
To my eyes, this banana does not seem to have white power on them and
it probablly is Bajoo. But young pups usually do not have the white powder,
so it must be carefull to identify youg pups.

That is actually the banana I have owned the longest. I started of with the one in the far left in the picture above. The main stem died back and the three stems emerged centered around what looked like a rotting core? Unfortunately I mananged to kill one of the stems bumbling around trying to seperate them. After that I just planted the two survivors as-is. This is what they looked like right after the record low here on Easter this year. They survived covered only by a 5 gallon bucket. The other bananas I bought this year at about 2 feet high.
