I have had mine do this, the leaves began to grow narrow with the identical yellowing. In my case it was lack of fertilizer. I increased fertilizer and the leaves began to grow out of it.

Hey Siege, what are the signs if you're over fertilizing? I'm not, but I'd like to know what to look for in case it happens.

Just from mine, I have noticed burns close to and along the midrib of the leaf, but that is just suspected overdose, but before that happens the leaves seem to get very wavy looking on the edges if they have had more than enough fertilizer. I have come across deficiency in boron and calcium that causes the leaves of my Sikkimensis to be disfigured and twisted when they emerged with hardly any leaf tissue, just midrib, and very pale, almost white that burns in sun where there is tissue. This was caused here by my soil ph being off, and the plants could not take up the minerals. i adjusted it a little, and I gave them some water with gypsum drywall crushed in it for calcium, and a little boric acid/boron for awhile and the problem stopped. I have also noticed on some (ones not normally pinkish) edibles that the leaf petioles will become pinkish if not enough nitrogen. My Icecream/namwah did this after heavy rains that leached nutrients from its pot, it also corrected with more fertilizer. In the summer I never have problems overdosing them, I feed mine miracle gro 2 times a week, instead of the once per week, or twice a month will no ill effects and fast growth, but I would work up to it slowly to make sure its not too much. The Basjoo I have that was similar to the top photo were in my greenhouse and I was not feeding them because of winter. The leaves were emerging identical to the ones in the pic, and I see some narrowing of the leaf in the pic also.

I just looked at my basjoo, and the yellowing is gone now, but you can still see the narrow leaves, and the new wider ones since the fertilizer. I will post a pic tomorrow.

Excellent - thank you for such an informative response.
Im surprised by the lack of nutrients though as they are in new compost - but I will give it a go and give them a blast of MG.
Thanks again

I've got mine in pots Basjoos, and I'm using a weak solution of MG each time I water. Between the MG, a sunny location during the day, and placing in front of the heater duct at night, on sunny days I'm getting 1/16" rate of leaf growth per hour in NC, in January and February.
