Okay, I'm on a roll. I posted a thread about my California Gold and will now post about my Dwarf Brazlian that I got from my friend, Joe Real. Joe is a busy collector of citrus and this is how I first met him, but he also has extensive experience with bananas. Since I was coming over for the huge California Gold, I couldn't pass up the offer on the Dwarf Brazilian. Joe has a small yard and I have a large yard (I live on 47 acres and rent other ground as well). So, if any of you want to get rid of some pups that can grow in zone 9, let me know!

Anyway, this Dwarf Brazilian did suffer some leaf damage but it wasn't from the wind driving down the freeway because it was inside my pickup cab. However, I had laid it down so that the halved mother corm could scab and I was foolish and let some leaves get sunburned. It is now growing well, though. Joe said that this may have mutated slightly as it seems more cold hardy than normal. I'm especially looking forward to fruits from this plant. I used to work in Hawaii (yes, WORK) for 4 weeks a year and loved the apple bananas while there!

By the way, more of you should post in the wiki to indicate if you're growing a particular cultivar.

Thanks for looking!

Harvey

Looking good!

I agree, more people should go through the wiki, type in the name of each banana they grow, locate the relevant page, and add their location to the respective map. Then do that over and over for each kind.

I'll create a special page that offers the preformatted code, I think that's hindering folks a bit. I think making it easier will help. First, though, in order for this idea to work, folks will NEED to add their location (or pin a nearby landmark) to the member map which is located at:

stay tuned

Upload pics:
http://www.bananas.org/gallery/uploadphoto.php

Fill in the form with whatever it asks for, then click the upload button.
The next screen that comes up allows you to edit the pictures before final entry to the site, so again you'll have to click to submit them.

For tips on how to insert images in your posts, click here (http://www.bananas.org/showpost.php?p=390&postcount=17).

You're welcome Harvey! Just an example to many people who are around the area and you know how to dig and I have extra pup, they're yours for free. It really doesn't pay enough to sell my pups (dig them up, clean, package, post office, follow-up email, deal with problem customes, etc.), but will do it for exchange, other "humanitarian" reasons, or you can simply come and dig them out for free (provided I have extra, so call ahead of time if you are going to visit). I have given away many California gold pups for free to various friends and even forum members, but the waiting line for California Gold is still a long way.

I have extremely diversified interests, and it so happens that the time I met Harvey, he was looking for citrus budwoods too, so I picked him up for a ride to tour Gene Lester's citrus farm. So I am not growing only bananas. I have more than 350 fruiting cultivars now and still only 725 square feet of land to plant them on. The very few fruit trees that I could not (impossible because they're herbs) multi-graft are bananas, othewise, I may have a 24-n-1 banana plant, LOL. My grapes are starting to become multi-grafted now.

With the extremely diversified interests, it keeps my mind better in shape and understand more about growing fruiting plants. Bananas in our zone is one of the challenges that I have successfully overcome, now I am just refining it for various cultivation goals. Different hobbyists have also diversified goals even if they grow the same plants in the same zone.

Have fun growing your fruiting plants, Harvey!
