I have a bunch of Orinoco Pstems under my house (still looking great), and am wondering what's the best way to wake these guys up in spring. The biggest is 10 foot, any tips on how close to last frost they can be set out (will a late frost hurt just pstems?), how to keep them from falling over, and how much to water, or not at first. I dont want to accidentally kill naners that made it all the way through winter. :2738:

I put them outside when temperature are about 17°C max and 10°C min, that temps usually arrive about two weeks before the last frost so if forecast is good, I plant them without any particular care.
Just stick them in the ground, of course it's better if you ameliorate the soil. I do think that cool damp climate makes everything more difficult for the corm, so I try to plant them when the weather is dry. And I water them with water that I have left in black drums exposed to the sun, so it's a bit hotter that ambiente temperature water. I leave them on the dry side however, at least till high temperatures kicks in. April here is pretty rainy and natural rain is actually a lot, sometimes too much.
I never propped them because as far as i know, they will start growing again once they will have rebuilt all their roots, so when you will see the first leaf, they will be well-anchored to the ground. That's all.

If you can catch a few youtube videos on planting a banana plant in the tropics then you will be good.......after last frost of course.
From your previous posts, your good.
Same goes for you and I in our zones.....dig a hole... amend the soil ...plant that sucker....and enjoy.
All of mine are in containers, so as I add heat and sun and these resilient fellas pup and go.
I believe it is the same for bareroot plants however it will take alittle longer to grow root structure..
My plants will lose leaves while keeping a healthy root structure in my soilless mix.
Then when spring comes they are ready to pop
I can send you pics of up to date root structure if you wish.
Are you doing ferns this year Siege?
I have a few new batches going on.. 14 months old-+
