Hello, I'm new to the forums... and new to banana growing. I know that this may be pure folly, but on a whim I bought a few banana plants and have been growing them. One is a Lady Finger and two are dwarf Cavendish. I live in CT (Zone 6a) and I do not have a greenhouse. What I have is a 9.5' ceiling and a wall of windows. I've had the plants for 7 months and so far they're doing great (they've been indoors since September). The Lady Finger is now 4 ft tall (was 12") and the Cavendish are both about 2 ft (were 3").

But I'm wondering if this can last. Is it possible for me to continue to keep them alive and growing (and maybe even produce bananas!) in my dining room in CT in pots? Or are my plants days numbered?

Here's my lovely Lady Finger:

Dwarf Cavendish:

Any advice or insight is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

When is your last day of frost for the season? After danger of frost ends, move your banana plants outdoors. Your banana plants are certainly NOT doomed. When you move them back outdoors in spring be sure to gradually expose them to increasing sunlight by placing in shady spot first and then moving to area with more sunlight. The sunlight outdoors in spring will likely be much more intense than light exposure indoors during winter.

Anything is possible...Highly unlikely as the sun gets higher in the sky the next 5 months. JCA433's comments make sense.

Your plants days are not "Numbered"... They can live a long healthy life indoors, although the prospect of producing bananas is very small...

Thank you very much for your responses!

The last risk of frost here is generally around the first week of May. So do you think that as long as I keep bringing them out every spring, they should be okay? It'd be nice if they could grow bananas, too, but I guess that's probably not going to happen. So I'll just have to settle for keeping them alive.
