Hi all, I live in Hilton Head Island SC and it starting to get a bit chilly at night time. Banana leaves have all died, i have cut them all off. Question.. I have a spot in the front yard that I want to put a new banana plant ( for appearance ). Are there things that I can do through the winter to get this soil more fertile. example, burying our organic food waste, banana peels, coffee grounds, ect.?
Any info is much appreciated. Thank You!

None that you listed, but a cup each of cottonsead meal and alfalfa meal per 5 gallons of soil.

Other good green manures are stinging nettle for N and Fe, and Comphrey which has a very good NPK ratio for bananas and flowering/fruiting plants in general. It is also quite high in Ca and other minerals. Something I just learned the other day: it is a good idea to use a weak compost tea to foliarly spray plants (most of the time*) to not only help prevent pests and immediate absorption of nutrients, the bacteria remain for long periods of time and continuously release nutrients, and so constantly foliar feed the plant just like in the soil. Makes sense, but never thought about it before.

Yes, everything you mentioned will work fine. Folks have been doing that for thousands of years. I do my whole farm that way and I produce huge bunches without using any fertilizer.
