That's an interesting approach to show how fertilizer negatively impacts the growth of banana plants.
It's really amazing how skinny they can be and how small their leaves are.
Here's a 12 inch TC banana I planted a couple of days ago, it was grown without any fertilizer.
With just some compost these amazing plants will grow fat and produce huge leaves.

Those tallest plants are a little over 50 cm to the highest petiole junction, and started as 10 cm tall plants. You also cannot compare nursery grown plants to plants grown out in the open field. I had 144 plants on about 200 square ft of bench space.

It would be a mistake to assume that plant was grown in an open field, 13 hours earlier it was in a densely packed nursery.
It would also be a mistake to assume it was the biggest or best plant, when in actuality it was a sister shoot and my weakest and smallest plant.
It is the sister shoot on the left.

This is the sister on the right, a little under 60 cm to the highest petiole junction.
The only difference was that biochar was added to the potting mix for this one.
