Hi, im Flora99,
Ive just joined your forum.
Ive been growing bananas (Musa Basjoo)outdoors in the uk for years.i am now living on the beautiful west coat of scotland where we get a mild wet winter as a result of the north atlantic drift.(gulf stream))
I had to retire from a lifetime of professional gardenening in 2004 when i got a rare nureological condition called RSD
Since i moved to Scotland im now in remmision.
I recently finished my new garden with a hardy exotics theme this spring, and will be opening it for charity (National Gardens Scheme for Scotland last weekend July 2015)
I am looking for banana species that would grow outdoors here.
I already have Musa Basjoo growing outside for two winters with the aid of fleece and protection ,and it is 15 foot tall with 3 stems as thich as a human leg!
I have heard about the Dargeeling Red Tiger banana ,Sikimense and would like to get a plant.Does anyone have plants for sale come the spring?
I would also like to get any other species you think might survive here.

I look forward to hearing from you and comparing notes.
Are there any other banana enthusiasts on the west coast of Scotland ?
Best Wishes

Inverewe Gardens in Scotland has bananas according to an article in the Christian Science monitor. I tried to visit it about 10 years ago but it was closed due to storm damage. If you google subtropical gardens in Scotland, you may get some other hits.

Thanks i want to go visit Inveraewe gardens anyway so will make a point of going next summer. The best time to visit is May as its famous for its amazing rhododendrons ans azaleas, dont suppose the bananas will be unwrapped at that time of year, but its still worth knowing.
Thanks a lot

Thats really great.
Do you have named forms of Sikimenses or just the spiecies?
Either would be great.
Please feel free to mail me in the spring.
