Just passing this along... at the moment, Bananas.org is not a sponsor nor involved with organizing this event. This was sent to me by Pascal Liu, and was sent to Pascal by Thomas Dubois.

Dear Colleagues -
IITA, in collaboration with Bioversity, FARA, ISHS and KARI, is pleased to announce the international conference:
"Banana and plantain in Africa: Harnessing international partnerships to increase research impact"
Mombasa, Kenya, April 7-10, 2008
www.banana2008.com (http://www.banana2008.com/)
Worldwide interest for this conference has been substantial. Fostering international partnerships is a major objective of the conference, with particular emphasis on establishing the role of research in promoting future commercial activities and trade in banana and plantain. There is an urgent need to target basic and applied research that connects to existing and emerging markets. This unique conference will be the first pan-African meeting to link research to markets in an African context.
For this conference, we aim to sollicit interest from stakeholders in the European arena (trade, policies, markets) and transfer lessons learnt.
More information about the conference, including a call for abstracts, is attached. We also encourage you to visit our website www.banana2008.com (http://www.banana2008.com/)
Mark your calendars, and we hope you can help us make this conference a success.
