Hi all -
This seems to be a very active forum! We are organizing an International Banana Conference in 2008 (Kenya), and particularly soliciting private sector/policy/non-African participation. Hence this post.
The website for the conference is www.banana2008.com (http://www.banana2008.com)
Cheers, and looking forward to keep contributing here.

I would love to try to join. I will be searching for funds. Flying Dutchmann, (Ron) and Mark Hall, we should definately be representing northern Europe here, and the potential in growing musas for the foliage/gardening market.

A very welcome smallmasterr and thank you for putting the link on our site.
We have tried to contact Bioversity several times in the past and asked them to add us to the links-section of their site. They never responded unfortunately.
It looks like it will be a very interesting conference and I wished I(or we) could be there.

Welcome aboard Smallmasterr, thanks for joining Bananas.org and posting a thread about this.
I had missed this thread and started another about this conference.

Looks very interesting and we're following it...
Like Ron states, we did reach out to Bioversity in the past to no avail. Maybe they are very busy? The community should have more open and better communication so that preparations for the future are more efficient.
I have plans to be in Africa the beginning of 2008 so this event may be a possibility to attend. I do hope other members here are able to make it. Hopefully at least one of us can attend and create a composition of the highlights for all who couldn't attend to read.
Regardless, best of success with the event!

Well, we hope you can make it! If you are still unsure, have a look at the venue. Also, sponsorships will most likely be available. Thanks for the interest,

ISHS conventions are usually published in great detail (I'm not presently an ISHS member but have attended one congress on chestnuts and received that publication as part of my registration fee and have seen the publication of another). The publications are also available for purchase, probably around six months after the event. Still, attending in person would be the best experience.

For Immediate Release - July 17,2007
"The International Banana and Plantain Committee announced today that Bananas.org, an international knowledge-based internet organization with members spanning 5 continents, has been invited to co-sponsor next year's conference to be held in Kenya." In conjunction with this invitation, the conference will award 15 round-trip airline passes and executive accommodations at the Royal Kenya Hilton for the 15 participants and their families*.
IBPC President Kwame Oboto proclaimed. "The wide range of expertise among the many varieties of banana as well as the cultivation and propagation of such, make Bananas.org a most welcome addition to our conference."

Do I have better things to do with my time than make up stories like this? Of course, but this is alot more fun. My *rabbit and I would love to go to to an event of this nature and he certainly is an expert both on fertilization issues and on which banana skins are most tasty. Note: I have no expertise whatsoever, however rabbits are not permitted to fly commercially or in hotels unless they are accompanied by a human.
