Thanks Aroo, but that's some really bad advice... not sure how you came up with that.
They have a perfectly good root system, why would you dig'em up and compound the problem ... haven't they been through enough?

Gotta love that free potting mix.
They're marked and it'll take 2 days to get them upright, then we'll see if they push.

Haha ya I do actually. But no it actually depends on use, I love a bland crisp lettuce for sandwiches and burgers, but like more flavoruful types for a salad. I do hate the spicy masculine types though. The girlfriend is into all the flavourful types, but I do the growing so dont usually have much. I need to find a type we both enjoy. The go to is mixing lettuce with kale and spinach.
Edit: definitely not store bought though!
