I've grown broom corn which is the fodder version. I planted it like corn and it did well. Not sure that helps.

Well I'm going to plant it for a small food plot.. You know Deer like their Sweets.. :^)

In africa IIRC it was dry land crop. There are apparently about 30 species of it. about 30 species, one of which is raised for grain and many of which are used as fodder plants, either cultivated or as part of pasture. The plants are cultivated in warm climates.. Wikipedia

I've actually planted several varieties of sorghum for my job annually for the last 5 years. We were growing sweet sorghum which is used either for making syrup or ethanol. Nothing too special about it, keep the bugs off of it and try to keep the diseases down.
