Had a severe thunderstorm blow through here yesterday afternoon causing some damage to Apple (Manzano), and Sweetheart just starting to bloom. They said it was 50+ mph. gusts , felt more like hurricane force winds. I have another Sweetheart in the same mat with a decent bunch of fruit on it that I thought was going to come crashing down, but it is still standing! They really are strong plants. Here's a few pics.

Sorry to hear about your weather. We had thunderstorms today. I collected 2 inches of water in a mug left out in the garden. We escaped wind damage here though and just got flooding.

I'm so glad your bananas seem to have survived though.

Hey Frank, No other damage, It really was freaky watching the wind twist the plant around without breaking it! The FHIA 3 is leaning a bit more today than it was yesterday though. On a good note the Apple pup is coming along nicely, should be ready soon.

Hey Brian,

Is the white PVC looking pipe and irrigation system?

Hey Taylor, It is a homemade drip irrigation system, 3/4 " pipe with 3/32" holes drilled every foot. It allows me to water with stealth , and not alert the water police!( other S. Fl. growers will know what I mean by that) I do have other irrigation but can only use it once a week.http://www.bananas.org/images/smilies/banana_files/0493.gif

Thats a very good idea. I just use a soaker hose, but it is a pain to use. I will think about that in the future.
