I'm thinking of buying a indoor banana tree Musa cavendishii and would like some info before I buy.

What type soil do I need? Type of fertilizer, and how often to fertilize? Do I need 2 for pollination? Anything else I need to know?

unless your heart is set, i recommend you check out the wiki (http://www.bananas.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Allpages) before deciding on what type of banana you want to grow. you will only need one and typically fertilize once every 1-2 months (depending on how much you apply). a forum member by richard offers a specific fertilizers that bananas love. i can tell you first hand that his stuff is worth every penny and can be applied to virtually any fruit tree/plant you have growing.

best of luck!

Use a soil that drains well as their feet do not like stay wet. My Super Dwarf Cavendish has been a real joy to grow. I hope you have as much fun with your tree as I have had with mine. I use Fruit Fuel (http://www.plantsthatproduce.com/retail-banana-fuel.html) fertilizer as well.

Thank you for the input so far. Got a couple more questions. Do they like acid like citrus? I use citrus/cactus soil for my indoor citrus, would that be the right soil for banana?

I have never considered acidity or read much about it while raising my Banana trees so you got me to doing a Google on it and found this:
"Acidity Banana trees tend to prefer soils with higher acidity, such as a pH of 5.5 to 7. The acidity levels help the trees absorb potassium, which they pass on to their fruit." Source: What Are the Ingredients in Soil for Banana Trees? (http://homeguides.sfgate.com/ingredients-soil-banana-trees-57409.html)

There is no such thing as a Indoor banana tree. Anything that you read from the site that your buying from is mostly geared to just getting your $$$$.
The plant you want does not do well indoors year round.
Go ahead and get it but keep it outside for as long as you can.
Also these plants do much better outdoors...and then bring it in for the winter and set it by a bright light source.
Usually the plant that you buy is fresh out of a green house and looks very nice for 30-90 days and its health will usually start to decline thereafter.
But if you really want it go for it.
