Hello all
I have recently gotten the "Banana" growing bug and wish to try growing 2 varieties from seed. Musella lasiocarpa and Musa Sikkimensis...... any advice on getting them to sprout? I am in Nova Scotia, zone 6.

I have germinated Sikkimensis, and Sikkimensis red tiger. What worked for me was laying them on damp paper towel in a container, and laying another layer on top of them. Then I had to give them temperature fluctuations day, and then night. I cannot remember the exact temperature, but it seems like it was in the 80s F and then i put the container under the air conditioner, and it was in the 60's F at night. I had 2 seeds out of ten regular Sikkis germinate, and one red tiger also out of 10. I tried musella but had no germination. But later i came across info somewhere on the net that said they need cold storage treatment to simulate a cool winter. That was around December, one of the plain Sikki has about 3 feet of stem now.
