Hi there,

I'm new to the site. I have purchased a few of the Blue Java plants from Plant Depot, Home Depot, and Lowes. I've read that most likely I have Namwah plants. The fruit tastes really good. I have harvested a few bunches so far.

Has anybody purchased from Banana-plants.com? They are selling Blue Java plants. Any luck they are real?

Thanks,

Kurt

I lived in a southern CA zone 9b from 2001-2012. In my experience the Namwah grown there tastes better than the true Blue Java or the true Gold Finger grown there.

I have both Namwah and Blue Java and do like them both a lot.
My recent bunch harvested about 2 weeks ago tasted fantastic. Most of my family, friends and neighbors liked it better than the winter ripened Namwah bunch harvested back in March. I personally have liked it a lot in banana bread and (well it is its name, right?) homemade ice cream. Out of hand I probably liked them equally with Blue Java being more of a custard consistency, though not the vanilla taste as often described, but more fruity compared to Namwah which was just sweet.
If you have the space, I would grow them both.

... the winter ripened Namwah bunch harvested back in March.

It will be interesting to compare a summer ripened Namwah with Blue Java.

PM sendDarn, I'm very far from SD and don't have a garden space yet. I'd like to taste a real one just to see if it's good or as lousy as reported to be. (Those dragon fruit nearly hooked me and then I 'et one. Um, no.)

Road trip! Mini meet? Pictures, please? People included if you don't mind. :ha:

I am not a city person, but San Diego is a beautiful city with lots of fun things to do. Has a nice airport, too.
You are more than welcome to come over, too.
Pictures: i am afraid that I have already way too many "real deal" Blue Java photos in my photo gallery here on bananas.org
They are not only tasty but also very pretty.
