I was coming home from work. Every day I pass by this house that has beautiful bananas in the front yard. Today I stopped and offered to buy a pup. The lady refused the money, but had the shovel in her hand before you could blink a eye. She told me that they were "Cambodian Bananas"
She said 3 years ago she bootlegged a pup from Cambodia in her purse

What kind could this be ? She said it will produce fruit every year. The mother plant was about 8 foot tall, however she didn't cut any of the pups away

Is this the "Blue Java"?

You gotta love plant people! I know a Filipina woman whose mom shoved seeds or keikis of her favorite tobacco down her pants and brought them to Hawaii from the Philippines. When I moved to Thailand, I packed two seedlings of lignum vitae ( Guaiacum officinale) and a wild-collected New Guinea banana in my suitcase. Lost the banana, sadly, but the lignum vitae are thriving. LV is CITES Red Listed, but I collected my seedlings from under a plant in a botanical garden, where, eventually, the grounds crew would have raked them up and destroyed them. Sent two other plants to a friend in California; proud of myself! Plant people like this are usually happy to give you cuttings, seeds, or pups at no charge—at least that's my experience. There is a notably stingy, egotistical member of the International Palm Society who won't give anybody anything because he wants to be the only one to have certain palms. He is a prominent exception.:nanadrink:

I'm no expert, but I got a Cambodia banana from my neighbor and she said it was a Namva (Pisang Awak). This is what my Namva looks like and they will flower in large containers. The banana plant in the third picture is in a large plastic bucket with rope handles.

That's what I use for pots, they are like 7 dollars at Walmart for a big tub, and have the rope handles. I just drill some holes in the bottom, and they work great.
