I am seeking a source and or information for a few different things...

First question is regarding a material that is poly I believe; water proof, uv protected and commonly called rip stop. It is used on a lot of pre-made, quick set up green houses. Could anyone steer me onto a source(s) of this material on the roll.

Second question: is Musa [Texas Star] hype or reality?

Third and lastly (Sorry if this has been asked before): can anyone give a reference pro or con on the people from the below link)? I have written them. Once the e-mail was returned, second time was today and nothing yet... I found their site when I googled the afore mentioned Texas Star... Contact Us (http://bananacitytx.tripod.com/id2.html) but I couldnt tell the site was truely active or not.

Thanks in advance, Mick -- Abilene, TX :islandsharkbanana:

"commonly called rip stop."

Don't recomend it. It is broken down by sunlight and damp after a couple of years leaving just a net mesh.

Unfortunately all synthetics break down with time. Material coated in uv resistant material lasts longer. I am planning on this to only be used for a short three months or so annually during the winter time. Still inviting responses to aid in seeking a material source. Thanks for writing. Regarding 'Texas Star', I think TyTy Nursery started that myth. I've never actually seen a plant of it up close, so can't offer any personal experience, but many claim that's it's nothing more than an 'Orinoco'. They have a nice price though, but I wonder how small the "bulb" is. Also, I wonder if they know that it is called a "corm," and not a "bulb" (apparently not!). There is a difference.

Tyty has some interesting feedback about it all over the internet. I have expereinced their customer service and It makes me think in Latin . . . Caveat Emptor.

"Texas Star" is a name given by TyTy. This nursery has been the laughing-stock among online plant-enthusiasts for years.

The link you came up with looks like an unserious business. When buying banana-plants it's important to use a trustworthy source. It is incredibly easy to mix up landraces and species that look identical, but still are very different. One example is E-bay. You never know what you get there.

Here are a few banana-plant sellers with a good reputation:

I am amazed that they remain in business.
