Woke up this morning and noticed my banana tree was leaning and when I looked at it I found that a gopher had munched 90% of the way through its base. There is only one small root left. I read a few posts and have replanted the 3' tree in a pot to see if I can save the guy.
My question is there anything I can do to deter gophers short of killing them? Also any advice on how to save this badly munched tree?
Thanks in advance!

I hate gophers and have tried different things. I have pretty good success with the "Harbor Freight" solar mole/gopher chasers.
If there is still root and corm left on your plant, it will survive. Before planting in a pot, I like to dust the base with mycorrizae, which helps tremendously in developing new roots. Be very careful with watering until you see new growth.

Sorry to hear that you are having problems with those detestable monsters. If one of those things took out my SDC I would be peeved. That would be one super dead beast.

it will be one tasty gopher right now..slow cooked wrapped in a banana leaf..try some predator urine from outdoor sport store ...or try a snake..
