Horticulturist and Nurseryman for over 30 years. My real interest has always been in fruit and vegetable growing. More recently, medicinal plants have taken my fancy and I'm trying to crack Banana growing on a difficult site.

Peter, whereabouts are you located? Adding it to your profile would be a plus. It will enable us to help you better and learn from you as well.

Thanks everyone for your friendly welcome. I'm from the Central Coast of NSW Australia on 15 acres of weathered sandstone, altitude 270 ft. Warm temperate climate with around 15-20 frosts per year. Pretty exposed to winds from all directions, hence the difficulty growing Bananas but I'm on track for my first crop within a year.
I'll post a photo of the fruit which is from a friend's place. It is a bit of a mystery variety but very firm fleshed and thinnish skins. All I know is that it is supposed to be a good cool climate type.
Cheers
